7 International Foods We Love Right Now

foods

Every day it feels like the world gets that little bit smaller as international foods offerings pop up all over its major cities. For those who live in a cosmopolitan area, such as London or New York, international food is the norm. You can have Mexican for brunch, Japanese as an afternoon snack, and Italian for dinner. But, with all that choice, it can sometimes be difficult to decide what is worth spending your money on. Millennials are almost paralysed by choice nowadays, so to help them out, here are seven international dishes they should fill up with.

Halloumi Fries

Crunchy, salty, and full of flavour, halloumi fries are rapidly gaining popularity in street food markets around the world. Honestly, we are surprised it took so long for the foods scene to capitalise on our love for halloumi. We’ve been eating it in burgers and salads for quite some time now, but only recently has the fry variety been on the table. We are thrilled it is finally here, especially when it is covered in yoghurt, molasses and mint leaves.

Poké

If you like sushi, you are going to love poke. Warm sushi rice is topped with chunks of marinated raw fish, and any toppings you want. Avocado, edamame beans, mango, and pickled onions is a favourite combo. Douse the whole thing in sririacha mayo, Korean BBQ sauce or simple soy sauce and you’re ready to go.

Fish Tacos

Fish tacos have long been a winner with foodies but these little pockets of delight just keep getting better and better. Imagine the highest quality white fish, covered in desiccated coconut and deep fried until it is blissfully crunchy. Now put that fish on a fresh tortilla and top it with guacamole, pineapple chunks, white cabbage, chopped cherry tomatoes, and a healthy dose of coriander. Yum. It’s one of the favorite foods on this list.

Cevapcici

What on earth is cevapcici, I hear you ask. This delightful little snack is from the Balkans and comprises beef or lamb, onions, garlic and spices. The meat is then skewered and fried. It sounds simple but let me tell you the taste is anything but plain. Shove it in some fresh bread or enjoy it on its own.

Poutine

This Canadian favourite might come from a working class background but it has now made its way on to the tables of the elite. The premise is simple: French fries, cheese and gravy. But, poutine is so much more than that. For starters, the cheese is actually cheese curds that squeak in your mouth when you eat them. It might not be a diet option but it sure tastes good.

Alpaca Steak

There are so many reasons to get some alpaca meat into your life. Not only is it absolutely delicious, but it is the healthiest meat out there, being both low in fat and cholesterol. The steaks are sweeter than normal beef and I guarantee once you’ve tried one you’ll never want to go back to cow again.

Salt Beef Bagels

Our final international offering in this list is the magnificent salt beef bagel. Picture a soft, chewy bagel (bagels are undoubtedly the kings of the bread world), stuffed with moist salt beef that melts in your mouth, topped with mustard and gherkins. It might not look that big, but this sensational sandwich will fill you up until dinner.
